Questionnaire on adaptation research

There are two online questionnaires. (a) Research (b) Curriculum. This page deals with existing research programs. Online questionnaire on "Curriculum development" is available here.

Goal of the Survey

The goal of this survey is to compile existing research and to facilitate collaborative research related to climate change adaptation (CCA) in the region. The survey will help identify current research focus areas and potential for collaboration between institutions in the region. The survey results will be compiled to discuss how to establish a framework for research collaboration at the coming consultation conference on the “Role of Higher Education in Adapting to Climate Change: Africa” co-organized by the United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace and Institute for Natural Resources in Africa, the University of Ghana and IR3S. The consultation conference will be held in Ghana, October 2009.

1. Research input and collaboration for adaptation in the Africa

What existing research projects do you have that are related to climate change adaptation (CCA)? Please provide a brief description of each project (if no, please leave the answer blank).

e.g. Comparative Studies on Development Strategies with Impacts of Adaptation to Climate Change (CSDS-IACC)

e.g. Srikantha Herath, UNU

e.g. 2009-2011

e.g. Assessment of impact of adaptation climate change in flood rice farming sectors.
Proposed to work on downscaling future climate forecasts to local conditions; coupling weather forecasts to flood and rice yield models set up for target areas; assessment of proposals on adaptation strategies and evaluation of possible impacts.

e.g. Vietnam, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Thailand

e.g. Government officers, academic institutions

Contribution/linkage to your country’s CCA related-programs
e.g. • To generate knowledge related to climate change adaptation planning in water and rice farming sector, especially focusing on assessing adaptation impacts on development planning
• Provide training on tools and methodologies on climate change adaption to practitioners, to professionals, students and other stake holders.

e.g. Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Khon Kaen’s University (Thailand); University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka); University of the Philippines, Diliman & Los Baños; Vietnam Institute of Meteorology; further collaborations to be confirmed

e.g. National workshops and regional research meetings on Adaptation Strategies to Climate Change, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the Philipines, Thailand, 2009-2010

2.Existing research priorities and capacities

Please prioritize from the most important to the least (maximum 5).

3.Mechanism

What are the mechanisms or action items that can be used to implement possible collaborative research in the future? Please tick one or more of the following mechanisms/action items below, but specifically those which you believe that you can contribute to.

4. Additional Comments and suggestions
